Artist Shanti Yard uses woods indigenous to the Appalachian Mountains in Southwest Virginia. For the piece, an insect infestation cased the normally straight-grained silver maple wood to grow into a chaotic burl. Shanti was able to turn that chaos into a simple but stunning vase.
The vase measures about 71cm tall and 25cm in diameter. It weighs about 3kg.
