Pteranodons lived in North America for almost 2 million years during the Cretaceous, about 86 million years ago. The name comes from the Greek words "pteran" for wing and "anodon" for toothless. Pteranodons, and all pterosaurs, were flying reptiles, but even though they are often included with dinosaurs, they were not dinosaurs. Pterandons frequented the Western Interior Seaway, and many of their fossils are found in Kansas, Alabama, Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota.
