Elm trees first appeared during the Miocene (23 -5 million years ago). They originated in central Asia, flourished and spread over most of the northern hemisphere.
This rare elm was found in Nevada's Trout Creek area, where the Yellowstone hotspot was 16 million years ago. (Although, the North American plate is actually the thing that moved; not the Yellowstone hot spot.) The petrified elm is 24x14x10cm.
