Apophyllite is named from a combination of the Greek words "apo" - to be off, "phyllos" - leaf, and "ite" - rock, which alludes to this mineral's tendency to flake apart like a leaf when heated due to loss of water in its structure. This apophyllite is green because it is rich in iron.
The white mineral in this specimen is stilbite, and the pink/salmon mineral is heulandite. This specimen measures 9x9x8cm.
