Apophyllite is named from a combination of the Greek words "apo" - to be off, "phyllos" - leaf, and "ite" - rock, which alludes to this mineral's tendency to flake apart like a leaf when heated due to loss of water in its structure.
Apophyllite is found in several colors due to the presence of trace elements. This apophyllite is green because it is rich in iron. The white mineral in this specimen is stilbite.
It measures 16x7x3cm, and is from India.
